Outdoor Track & Field
Athletes and Parents
This is truly one of the hardest things that I've ever had the displeasure of announcing. In an effort to see us all through this difficult and dangerous time, Governor Northam has closed all K-12 schools for the remainder of the academic year, and, as an extension, all athletic programs, as well. There will be no 2020 Outdoor Track season.
While there are plenty of valid and justifiable emotions that will be felt and processed in all of this, bear in mind that your health, happiness, and very lives are paramount above all else.
I love this sport, I love all of you, and I am saddened beyond description that this is where we find ourselves. While I firmly believe that challenges and obstacles make us stronger and better people, the unprecedented measures that are needed to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus are certainly testing that conviction.
To all underclassmen, know that Westfield Track and Field will continue on, next year, as strong as ever. Our girls will look to defend their Indoor District Championship, and our boys will look to, once again, take that victory lap, trophy in hand.
To all Seniors, know that your energy and enthusiasm will be sorely missed. The contributions that you have made to this team will never be forgotten, and neither will you. The coaching staff are already at work planning ways to celebrate you when we are able to do so.
Use this time to remind yourselves that time is precious, that moments are fleeing, and to never put off for tomorrow what can be done today. Enjoy those fun-filled moments with friends and family and seize every opportunity to tell the people your care about that you care.
Stay safe and stay sane, Bulldogs!
Athletes and Parents!
Posted on our Facebook Group, you will find the training for the Week of 3/16 - 3/22. A link to our Facebook Group can be found on the Team Links section of this website.
Please remember that ALL FCPS facilities are CLOSED, and that you are encouraged to practice social distancing! In other words, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED ON SCHOOL GROUNDS, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE SCHOOL EQUIPMENT, AND YOU ARE NOT BEING REQUIRED, OR ENCOURAGED, TO MEET WITH ANY OTHER ATHLETES OR COACHES FOR THE DURATION OF THE CLOSURE!
As a coaching staff, we were preparing for the disruption of our season due to the coronavirus outbreak. We are excited about the program that we have put together and we are excited about the opportunity that you, as athletes, have in front of you. You have all the time in the world to really focus, train, and emerge stronger and more ready as a result of all this. But, it is entirely dependent upon your own motivation, dedication, and desire to get the work done. How bad do you want it? How bad do you want to get better than your competition? How bad do you want to take advantage of a unique opportunity to out-train, out-work, and out-hustle everyone else?
Every Sunday, the link will be updated with the coming week's training, so you will have it available to utilize and plan around.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask whether its on the FB Group, via email, etc.
"Tough times don't last, but tough people do."
School is canceled tomorrow, Friday March 13th. No practice either. Stay tuned for updates and information about the schedule and how to access your training over the next few weeks.
*ATTENTION ATHLETES AND PARENTS*
Effective March 14th, ALL FCPS Extracurricular Activities and Interscholastic Contests (i.e. Practices and Meets) are CANCELED until April 12th.
We WILL have 1 more practice tomorrow, Friday March 13th.
As we discussed at practice today, we, the coaching staff, have already begun the process of preparing for these circumstances. A full plan is in the works and will be shared with everyone when it is finished.
For the time being, rest assured that we are doing everything in our power to ensure your safety and put you in positions to be successful when we're allowed to return to practicing/competing.
This will be a major test of our collective and individual will. We must dig in and accept the fact that, more than ever, our season will rest on our ability to get work done outside of a formal/official practice setting. Will you be ready when the time comes to begin again? In the past, that answer has always been shown to be a resounding, YES. Let's make sure that this year is no different. When you have work to do, make sure it gets done! When Westfield Track and Field sets it's sights on a goal, we are unstoppable until we achieve it. Lets get focused and excited about the opportunity in front of us. Go Bulldogs!
