Message about pep rally

Team: a note about the pep rally this week, please read the below:

Hi Coaches, Teachers, and Students

The Winter Pep Rally is now FIVE days away! Thank you for your continued interest and cooperation. There are a few last-minute details that I would like to share with you all.

Sports coaches: An email will be sent on Westfield's Bulletin on Friday, February 14th (the day of the Pep Rally) dismissing all Winter Varsity athletes from class at 1:21, which is the beginning of 3rd period. Please let your athletes know this information and ask that they head directly to the gym in order to line-up. If they cannot miss class, please reiterate that they just get to the gym as soon as possible. After they are done walking, there will be a section of the bleachers roped off for Winter Sports only. The order of walking is as followed:

1. Gymnastics
2. Swim & Dive
3. Indoor Track & Field
4. Girls Basketball
5. Boys Basketball
6. Special Olympics

Dance teams:  An email will be sent on Westfield's Bulletin on Friday, February 14th (the day of the Pep Rally) dismissing all dancers from class at 1:21, which is the beginning of 3rd period. Please head directly to the gym, as you will have one chance to run through your dance. We will also be figuring out a smooth transition between dances, as they will go back to back, with a 10 second buffer between each group.  After you all are done dancing, please find a spot on the bleachers, do not stay on the sidelines as there will be many things going on and we don't want them to get clogged. After the sports-walking, the order of dances is as followed:

1. Hip Hop Dance Team
2. Latin Dance Club
3. ISA

Thank you for making this Pep Rally awesome! Please contact me if you have any further questions.

Message from the Coach 11/21/19: Practice Expectations

We've had a good week and a half of practice & time trials. Our athletes have great attitudes and seem excited to get to WORK! I know I am.

Now that our rosters are set and your swimmer/diver has made the team I need to clarify my expectations.

Unless you swim 5 days a week with your club team, you are expected at your high school swim practice. We take attendance each day.

Westfield Swim & Dive is a Varsity sport. But unlike other varsity sports we are restricted to four, one hour practices per week due to pool access. I'm not asking for a lot, I'm asking for the members of this team, to attend their practices.

Fairfax County requires 'Club Swimmers' to attend one practice per week in order to maintain their status as a member of the Swim & Dive Team. That requirement does not guarantee entry into a swim meet. It only guarantees their status as members of the team.

If you are swimming 5 days a week, I expect to see you more then once a week.

Hope that helps clear up any confusion, happy to discuss 703-725-9801.

Thank you to Christy Boyle for all of her hard work. Christy has been working for the past several weeks (months) on the apparel store and the new sweats. Thank you to the parents that helped with distribution of apparel this week and thank you Christy; the coaches, swimmers, divers, and parents all appreciate your hard work.

We had a great turn out at Foster's Grille on Tuesday, thank you for supporting the team.

And a final thank you to the Boyle's and the Hart's, they have donated a EcoGear sound system to the team. The team may not appreciate my choice of music but I promise I'll throw in a current song every now and then.

Message from Coach Pratt 10/24/19

Hello, Team

I am very excited to work with you all this season! Many of you know me already since I've been on the pool deck with you all in past seasons but I'll go over a few things here in this email.

My philosophy on coaching is to start slow and spend a lot of time on basic skills like your hurdle, takeoff and entries. It is much easier to find success and have confidence diving once these skills are mastered. My goal for the season is for everyone to be able to complete an 11-dive list by the time Districts rolls around. Each practice will be organized with this goal in mind. If you are not participating in any club diving right now, I strongly suggest heading to one of the ReCenters before tryouts to reacquaint yourself with the diving board. Oak Marr has open board times on the weekends. You can check their calendar to find out when boards are open. There are a couple of things you all need to do prior to tryouts:

  • Make sure you get all required forms turned in BEFORE tryouts
  • Divers are required to do concussion baseline testing. Again, make sure to do this BEFORE tryouts

I am looking forward to the season! Please let me know if anyone has any questions and let me know your year in school and experience level.
